If you are getting married in Suffolk then why not pop in to see Denise Johnson from “The Garden Gate“. I was very impressed not only with her florist skills and the way she puts colours together but also her dedication to her clients. I met Denise on the morning of Hermione and Joe’s wedding and not only did she deliver the flowers in person but she also explained what she had done and had made extra bits for the marquee from any leftovers. She decorated the church and made the button holes bouquets and bridesmaids head dresses which I felt she had got completely right. Not too formal just very soft pretty natural and loose.
Denise trained in Floristry and Horticulture and actually grows a lot of the flowers herself. She specialises in British flowers sourced as locally as possible. Denise is also the in house florist at Somerleyton Hall in Suffolk and is fortunate to have a large cutting border there. When she is not busy growing and creating beautiful displays she runs classes at Somerleyton Hall.
Denise usually likes to meet with couples where she will discuss what is likely to be in bloom on their wedding day. She has a green and natural ethos and try’s to avoid using florist foam preferring pretty vases and jars again something I particularly love. Hermionie wanted her flowers to look like they have just been picked from an English country garden and that is just what they looked like and why I loved them so much. They decided on and used Gladiolus, Dahlias, scabous, sweet peas, Garden roses, Achilea, Hydrangers, Fennel, Clary and Lakespur. They smelt divine and I know that whenever the couple smell those flowers again they will be taken straight back to what was a wonderful day. See more of Hermionie and Joe’s wedding here.
